Geyer was engaged to design QGC’s new corporate headquarters. QGC’s Asia Pacific Headquarters located in Brisbane’s 275 George Street precinct brings together two of the largest companies in the Coal Seam Gas liquification industry; BG Group (British Gas) and QGC (Queensland Gas Company). Following the merger of these two groups, Geyer developed a workplace solution that clearly articulates and supports the strength and growth of this unified company.
The merging of workplace cultural differences between the UK based parent and the local workforce have been seamlessly woven together to provide a collaborative, relaxed environment. The two storey volume of the top floor of 275 George Street, unique to Brisbane CBD buildings, afforded QGC the opportunity to showcase their history and leadership in the Coal Gas Seam field. This area, their “front door” has appropriately been allocated to visitor reception and external conferencing facilities. It also provides the canvas to display QGC’s involvement in the industry. Examples of their extraction production and transportation processes are on display, which include two large scale models of their gas freighters (ships) to a full size section of a ‘drilling head’. In addition to this, this impressive space boasts custom artworks, designed by Geyer, suspended from the towering ceiling above. Inspired by the molecular structure of the gas extracted from coal seams, CH4 (methane), these intricately detailed pieces announce QGC’s leadership and expertise in their field.
